چکیده

We present a two-dimensional, well-balanced, central-upwind scheme for approximating solutions of the shallow water equations in the presence of a stationary bottom topography on triangular meshes. Our starting point is the recent central scheme of Kurganov and Petrova (KP) for approximating solutions of conservation laws on triangular meshes. In order to extend this scheme from systems of conservation laws to systems of balance laws one has to find an appropriate discretization of the source terms. We first show that for general triangulations there is no discretization of the source terms that corresponds to a well-balanced form of the KP scheme. We then derive a new variant of a central scheme that can be balanced on triangular meshes. We note in passing that it is straightforward to extend the KP scheme to general unstructured conformal meshes. This extension allows us to recover our previous well-balanced scheme on Cartesian grids. We conclude with several simulations, verifying the second-order accuracy of our scheme as well as its well-balanced properties.

A New Implicit Dissipation Term for Solving 3D Euler Equations on Unstructured Grids by GMRES+LU-SGS Scheme

Due to improvements in computational resources, interest has recently increased in using implicit scheme for solving flow equations on 3D unstructured grids. However, most of the implicit schemes produce greater numerical diffusion error than their corresponding explicit schemes. This stems from the fact that in linearizing implicit fluxes, it is conventional to replace the Jacobian matrix in t...

An explicit residual based approach for shallow water flows

We describe a fully explicit residual based construction to discretize the shallow water equations with friction on unstructured grids. The approach is by construction exactly well balanced for al the simple known steady equilibria, and it shows a super-covergent behavior for smooth non-trivial equilibria, as the implicit residual schemes considered in (Ricchiuto, J.Sci.Comp. 48,2011). Moreover...

On the C-property and Generalized C-property of Residual Distribution for the Shallow Water Equations

In this paper we consider the discretization the Shallow Water equations by means of Residual Distribution (RD) schemes, and review the conditions allowing the exact preservation of some exact steady solutions. These conditions are shown to be related to both the type of spatial approximation and to the quadrature used to evaluate the cell residual. Numerical examples are shown to validate the ...

AIAA 2001–2623 Multi-Dimensional Upwind Constrained Transport on Unstructured Grids for ‘Shallow Water’ Magnetohydrodynamics

Novel Multi-dimensional Upwind Constrained Transport (MUCT) schemes on un-structured triangular grids are described. Constrained Transport (CT) discretizations conserve the divergence-free nature of divergence-free vector fields on the discrete level. Multi-dimensional Upwind (MU) schemes generalize the concept of dimensionally split upwind schemes for hyperbolic systems to truly multidimension...
